GONGER’S KITCHEN

Sesame Place,  Full Time Co-op

Illustrator, Photoshop

During my time as an Entertainment Technology intern at Sesame Place, I had the opportunity to operate parade floats on a daily basis. I gained firsthand experience of the design, upkeep, and inner mechanisms of these vehicles. I used this new knowledge to design my own parade float to add to the existing Neighborhood Street Party Parade.

I reviewed multiple options for the float’s central character, and landed on Gonger, Sesame Street’s resident chef. He is one of the only costumed characters in the park not to have a place in the parade. Gonger’s segment on the show takes place in his food truck, which makes it a natural addition to this parade’s outdoor theme.

RESEARCH

Through photography, digital tracing, and paper sketches, I analyzed the use of space as well as driver placement and hidden details for keen-eyed guests.

I also kept track of which floats I preferred to operate, and questioned what about their design made the driver more comfortable.
